The role

Role Summary

Interns will work on healthcare informatics tasks such as mapping clinical and revenue workflows (provider and payer), data quality and terminology alignment (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, SNOMED, LOINC), building lightweight prototypes for search, summarization, and automation across clinical and RCM data, interoperability patterns (FHIR resources, HL7 v2 messages, CCD/CCDA concepts), and responsible AI practices for PHI, auditability, and role-based access.

Success in this role looks like

  • Produce a portfolio-ready capstone focused on a healthcare informatics use case
  • Build a working prototype or detailed design (workflow + data model + governance) for a Neurex feature
  • Deliver an interoperability artifact (FHIR mapping, sample resource bundle, or HL7 interface spec)
  • Create a concise findings deck: problem, workflow, data sources, risks, metrics, and rollout plan
  • Demonstrate strong communication and team collaboration
Time commitment

Weekly Trainings

Curriculum

Course Schedule and Topics

01

Healthcare informatics foundations

Provider and payer workflows, PHI basics

Work task: Personal intro + workflow mapping of a real clinical or RCM process

02

Interoperability essentials

FHIR, HL7, terminology, data quality

Work task: Create a FHIR mapping for a chosen workflow (patient, encounter, claim, prior auth, denial)

03

RCM informatics

Denials, appeals, zero balance, underpayments, evidence packaging

Work task: Build a denial taxonomy and a minimal data schema for denial workflow analytics

04

Applied AI in healthcare operations

Search, summarization, classification, human-in-the-loop

Work task: Prototype a "Neurex Seek" style search experience using synthetic data and guardrails

05

Governance and safety

Audit trails, role-based access, evaluation, bias and reliability

Work task: Draft a governance checklist and evaluation plan for the capstone solution

06

Capstone demo and review

Final presentations and feedback

Work task: Demo + short report + next-step roadmap

Certification

Certification Path

Completion Certificate

Awarded for completing weekly deliverables and capstone

Advanced Certificate

Awarded for a capstone that includes interoperability artifacts and evaluation plan
